Award-winning Jones Bros has amassed decades of experience at the forefront of some of the largest and most complex energy projects in the UK.
At Jones Bros, our in-house plant division exemplifies our dedication to operational excellence. With one of the largest plant fleets in the UK, we possess a diverse range of machinery, meticulously maintained to ensure optimal performance on every project.
On site, we can be the single point of contact for cementitious products - from laying stabilised roads, to delivering and commissioning an on-site batching plant. We can also quarry and process the required aggregates either on site via borrow pits, or within local quarries to produce and deliver high quality concrete.
Our extensive inventory includes excavators, bulldozers, dump trucks, and specialist surfacing equipment. This variety allows us to tackle even the most demanding projects with unparalleled efficiency and precision, eliminating concerns about hiring equipment in.
We also continuously update our fleet to incorporate the latest technology. Our machinery is sourced from industry-leading names such as Komatsu, Volvo, and Liebherr.
In 2017, we made a record investment of £9.8 million in new heavy plant and have continued to invest ever since. Our fleet now stands at 500 strong, including the recent addition of hybrid HB365LC-11s and PC700LC-11 excavators, as well as D85PXi-18 bulldozers.
These hybrid machines, purchased in 2023, have been used on our sites in Scotland and Wales and have proven to be more effective than their predecessors due to significant fuel savings. Real-time telematics data reveals that these machines can save more than six litres of fuel per hour, aligning with our commitment to sustainability.
Jones Bros is proud to have its own training centre in Denbigh, North Wales offering industry-accredited training courses in construction and plant operating skills. By investing in our workforce, we can assure that we have many skilled future civil engineers and maintain the quality of our team to deliver the best possible work for our clients.
We've also pioneered an innovative approach to higher-level apprenticeships in civil engineering through our collaboration with Coleg Cambria and Wrexham University.
The full degree apprenticeship programme, which includes a BEng (Hons) in Civil Engineering or a BSc (Hons) in Quantity Surveying, sees our partners provide classroom learning, whilst we offer practical, hands-on experience at our purpose-built training centre and on UK-wide projects.
Nine apprentices joined the new-look programme in 2024 for three weeks of work experience before starting their studies. Two years later there are 25 employees on our degree apprenticeship.
A strong support network fosters collaboration among apprentices from diverse backgrounds, enhancing their learning experience and professional development, whilst our work also emphasises a commitment to career progression, with many senior managers having started as apprentices or trainees.
We also offer a 15-month trainee operative scheme, in which those on the course begin learning about health, safety, and environmental training, followed by Construction Plant Competence Skills (CPCS) standard instruction on equipment such as forward tipping dumpers and telehandlers.
Upon completion, individuals receive a CPCS red card, which prepares them for on-site work. All our NVQs and courses are accredited by the Sector Skills Council (SSC).
Additionally, our plant instructors and assessors are fully accredited by the CPCS, the Construction Skills Certification Scheme (CSCS), and City & Guilds.
One of our most significant recent achievements was the completion of the £139m A487 Caernarfon and Bontnewydd bypass ahead of schedule.
This 9.7km bypass, one of the largest infrastructure projects in North Wales, runs from the Goat Roundabout on the A499/A487 to the Plas Menai roundabout.
We reused and recycled 99 per cent of the excavated materials on this project, demonstrating our commitment to sustainable practices. We always make sure to plan and recycle existing materials where possible to use as sub-base.
After completing a 1km spine road plus junctions to each of 10 new units for the Cheshire Green Employment Park, we were then appointed to deliver phase two of the project.
At stage two, we doubled the length of the highway, which enabled the full delivery of nearly 1.5m sq ft of warehouses, and we also installed a drainage system and carried out kerbing, surfacing, and landscaping.
Another notable project was the £32 million King's Dyke development. This major infrastructure project involved constructing a new 1.2km road, two new roundabouts and a 32-metre single-span bridge over the Ely to Peterborough railway line, significantly reducing traffic delays caused by the level crossing.
